Tiger & Turtle Roller Coaster Turned Pedestrian Walkway
There comes a time when things don’t necessarily serve their original purpose any longer– and this Tiger & Turtle Magic Mountain structure is now an interesting piece to climb all over. Having Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth behind the transformation was key.
The walkable outdoor large-scale sculpture is located in Duisburg, Germany. It transitions beautifully from day to night with LED lights emitting bright light from the stair rails; making it an enjoyable walk any time of day or evening. The curved flights of stairs mimics the classical roller coaster, with the visitors climbing afoot via different paths.

Windows 8 Fast and Fun
Awesome!
Microsoft has started its UK marketing activity for its new Windows 8 operating system by installing a giant slide in the Bluewater shopping centre, giving shoppers an alternative to using the stairs and presenting Windows 8 as ‘fast and fun’. Every slider had their picture taken as they went down the slide, received a photo print of themselves and a copy was sent to their mobile.

Minimum Monument – Ice-men by Néle Azevedo
Wow. Such a phenomenal installation!
These Ice-Men by Brazilian artist Néle Azevedo is called ”Minimum Monument”. They were presented as part of the Festival of Queen’s in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The artwork is a collection of hundreds of carved ice-men, perched readily side by side on the steps of custom house in the city of belfast, a carefully prepared intervention that slowly thawed under the heat of the day. The project was selected by the curator of the event as a tribute to Titanic victims, the ephemeral artwork a powerful expression of the transitory nature of life, and death.

Banister-Bending Staircases take Handrails to New Heights
This extreme pair of staircases represents two unique, asymmetrical works of functional art – each is installed in an actual London home, but based on three-dimensional computermodeling and created using laser-cut materials.
Everything about these designs by architect Alex Haw of Atmos is warped, bent and twisted, from the treads and risers up through the balusters and banisters.
I wouldn’t want to be drunk and have to walk up these stairs! Or down for that matters. But I sure as h*ll like the design!
