TED Talk: Elaine Lui – The Sociology of Gossip

Such a cool talk!
Lainey isn’t looking to impress anyone, especially celebrities. The ETALK Reporter and scribe of the immensely popular celebrity gossip blog, LaineyGossip.com, does what she does for one reason – to provide a gossip education to the Canadian public. The Toronto-born, self-proclaimed gossip maven got into the gossip game in a very roundabout way. What started as an email to two friends grew to a website with active followers from around the world. More than one million people now read LaineyGossip.com every month, making it a leading international celebrity news source. Elaine’s years of experience in the media, celebrity entertainment and blogging space have helped her shape a fascinating TED talk about gossip and it’s critical place within modern pop culture.
Un-instrusive Pop Up Street Furniture of the Netherlands

Street art and furniture in public places tends to be the last thing on the minds of public planners. Many artists have been branching out into more creative and innovative ways of putting inviting and interesting designs for the general public. Carmela Bogman and Rogier Martin of The Netherlands have come up with an interactive design for the people.
By utilizing a hydraulic system, users can determine which pieces to bring up and determine their own seated or standing heights to set the modular blocks at. There are three retractable pieces that come up to function as a lounge area, eating spot or meeting place – or just lower them all down to be flush with the cement to keep the flow of traffic moving.

Privacy Pop Bed Tent

This is funny. I’m not quite sure, you’d ever really use it. Other that for hanging out in your garden.
“Privacy Pop is a solution for the person who wants or needs privacy for their bed space in close quarters.
The pop up tent is transportable and fits most bed sizes, ranging from Twin, XL Twin and Full mattress sizes– the easy to use pop up piece is a great solution to a common problem. And there are varying ranges of privacy with different openings and zip up windows to open and close at your leisure.”
The Real Bears

“This is the director’s cut of the The Real Bears, a film I directed and animated for a campaign to reduce the consumption of soda and other sugary drinks”, Lucas Zanotto says.

Popcorn Indiana: The Popinator Project

Whether or not this is created for viral potential, it’s hilarious!
The Popinator Project by Popcorn Indiana aims to change the popcorn eating experience by making it more fun. The idea behind The Popinator is to instantly deliver popcorn into a person’s mouth just by saying the word “pop”.
The Popinator is able to pinpoint where in the room the spoken word originated from and shoot a piece of popcorn at it. The Popinator shoots up to 15 feet and is for inside use only.

Other Lives – Tamer Animals

My dear friend Kristian presented me to American Other Lives the other day. I’m completely blown away with this song called Tamer Animals, which is always the album title.
Then I found out, that Other Lives opened up for Bon Iver on their U.S. Tour – and I almost died! Coz’ I look at my tickets for the Bon Iver Copenhagen concert every day on my fridge. And I look sooo much forward. So a night with both bands; my God!!
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like Other Lives joins Bon Iver for their Europe Tour. I guess I’ll have to find Other Lives somewhere else.
Here they are on iTunes at least!!
Thank you so much, Kristian!

Cool Illustrations by Polish Roman Klonek

These cool illustrations are by the illustrator Roman Klonek.
Roman Klonek, born in Kattowitz/Poland, have a spot for old fashioned cartoons, especially East European Styles. In the 90s he studied Graphic Arts in Duesseldorf and discovered a passion for woodcut printing.
For the past 10 years he has done posters with a wide range of whimsical creatures, mostly half animal/half human, preferential in awkward situations. You will find a bizarre balancing act between propaganda, folklore and pop.
He works together with friends in a studio in Düsseldorf, Germany.
