Morangis Retirement Home

Morangis Retirement Home located in Paris, France by Vous Êtes Ici Architectes. The building is constructed on 4 levels and is based on a Y shaped plan. This bright and lively color, stimulating without being aggressive, is also the one used for the window and door frames of the facades found under the awnings and in the bedrooms. As one approaches the building and passes below the awnings towards the yellow coating, as he is welcomed, will feel and understand the building’s harmony. One will easily understand how the building works and how it is connected to its natural and urban surroundings.

IBM: Smart Ideas for Smarter Cities

IBM is committed to creating solutions that help cities all over the world get smarter, in order to make life in those cities better.
That’s why IBM and Ogilvy are working together to spark positive change with the “People for Smarter Cities” project, and unite city leaders and forward-thinking citizens. To spread the word, Ogilvy created outdoor advertising with a purpose: a bench, a shelter and a ramp that are not only designed to be beautiful, but to be useful to city dwellers as well.

Minimalism by Betillon / Dorval-Bory in Paris

You really need to think creative when you barely have any room. This apartment in Paris, France, is microscopic. So French design firm betillon / dorval-bory used a minimalist approach in its design where light becomes an important element to compartmentalize the space. Using white as its primary color was key in making the apartment look more spacious than it actually is. This proves that square footage doesn’t actually matter that much, and it’s how you take advantage of it that counts.

Dynamic Home for Bees by Atelierd

Sitting at 215 square feet, atelierd created a great looking “Bee Pavilion” in Alsace, France, with hexagonal structures. These geometric pieces are covered by a roof that allows breeze yet blocks direct sunlight out of the middle portion.
Overall, the area is dynamic – and not to mention visually stimulating. Each pod has a unique core with various textures, geometry and colors. Some are left with nothing inside so as to allow some visual transparency, and others are created with the idea of a place for the bees. Built in 2012, the home is transformable to accommodate humans that might like to repurpose some pieces as furniture and enjoy the natural buzzing surrounding the pavilion.

Waterbed Pavement

The pavement, which was installed in Bourges, France a couple of years back, was created in collaboration with the National Art School of Bourges and FRAC Centre. What they did was install a huge pad filled with liquid underneath the bricks to turn that stretch of pavement into a moving waterbed.
The project is called La Ville Molle (The Soft City) and while it’s a fun concept, it was created with a very serious message. The project was meant to question the ‘hardness of the city and its ability to change’.

A Bird Ballet

“We were shooting for a commercial with my D.O.P, waiting for an helicopter flying into the sunset, when thousands and thousands of birds came and made this incredible dance in the sky. It was amazing, we just forgot our job and started this little piece of poetry…”

A Large Scale Giraffe Extends Through French Childcare Center

Childcare is such an important part of many kids’ lives, and an integral component in their growth. It makes it easy to have the go-to building each day equipped with large and expressive animals abound the exterior.
This tiered building is located in Boulogne-Billancourt, France with Hondelatte Laporte Architectes at the helm of this creative process. While the interior is divvied up accordingly, it’s the exterior elements that really capture attention. Though the giraffe is stuck through part of the outdoor canopy, a bear on the opposing side peers over while ladybug’s trample up the side to get in on the patio level.

White Futuristic Facade Home in France

Sculptors Christophe Berdaguer and Marie Péjus took a forever existing space and gave the exterior a little face lift complete with polystyrene and paint. For a building that once served as a funeral home, prison and a school, it is now turned to a “ghost house” of sorts. Providing information and utilizing the space as a visitor’s center of sorts with an extraordinary outside that simply draws the outside indoors.
