Windows 8 Fast and Fun

Awesome!

Microsoft has started its UK marketing activity for its new Windows 8 operating system by installing a giant slide in the Bluewater shopping centre, giving shoppers an alternative to using the stairs and presenting Windows 8 as ‘fast and fun’. Every slider had their picture taken as they went down the slide, received a photo print of themselves and a copy was sent to their mobile.

The Foundation for Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital

It’s not that easy to collect money for a hospital. But this Swedish fundraising campaign for a children’s hospital is great. A very simple, yet very efficient idea – that brought tears to my eyes.

Aqua Expeditions – Boutique Hotel On The Water

The Amazon river might not sound like a luxury destination to many, but with Aqua Expeditions’ latest creation you may change your thinking. Peruvian Architect Jordi Puig created this luxe vacation spot on a 147 foot long boat that accommodates up to 32 guests plus the crew.

This quaint Amazon River cruise has all of the same essentials of any other cruise ship, only on a smaller scale. There are lounges, a jacuzzi (outdoor), a gym and dining areas in addition to the outfitted guest rooms. With an excursion to a place that many never get the chance to see, and plenty of it can be done right from your room. Though typical cruise ships hardly offer windows in plenty of the sleeping quarters – windows on this ship were designed with floor-to-ceiling views in mind.

What she needs

I had a bad day the other day. It was as if confusion and sadness was stuck in my body all day. So to help me letting it out, I put on Thomas Dybdahl’s amazing song Pale Green Eyes late at night. Then I found this quote on Pinterest… which made me cry.

This helped a bit.
Not the quote. But the crying.

Hot Air Balloon by Lucas Maassen: Skyline Bump – baked architecture

Dutch Design Week 2012 of course aimed to impress as usual, but one piece of art that stood out among the other installations happened to be an outdoor, Eindhoven city immersed hot air balloon by Lucas Maassen. Titled “Skyline Bump – baked architecture” this piece is a glowing piece of joy within the dull city architecture.

As a part of the “Unexpected Interactions” exhibit, Maassen set out to create a bold visual feature depicting something between a peeking sun and a cheerful living dome within the dutch city – giving the Dutch people an extra 30 minutes of light each evening with the 22 meter in diameter balloon.

Ripple Effect: Many-Angled Green Roof Wraps into a Deck

As impressive as the aesthetics are, the driving force behind this design were a series of eco-friendly interventions, ranging from solar power generation to passive heating and cooling systems.

Unsangdong Architects see their creation as a prototype for environmental design as much as it is an exploration of the relationship between indoor and outdoor dwelling spaces.

A large part of any smart, long-thinking green design is measuring its impact, hence the hundreds of sensors designed to analyze the effect of the integrated greenery on internal and external CO2 levels and other monitoring devices.

TED Talk: Candy Chang – Before I die I want to…

In her New Orleans neighborhood, artist and TED Fellow Candy Chang turned an abandoned house into a giant chalkboard asking a fill-in-the-blank question: “Before I die I want to ___.” Her neighbors’ answers – surprising, poignant, funny – became an unexpected mirror for the community.

I really like this talk. Her concept is wonderful. She speaks calm and clearly. And she moves me through showing her own emotions.

Very close to where I live, there’s been put up a “Before I die” mural too. Unfortunately the Danes haven’t been as good at using it though.
