French artist Antonin Fourneau created this cool installation called “Water Light Graffiti” while working in-residence at the Digitalarti Artlab in Paris. The surface is a matrix made of thousands of LEDs that illuminate when in contact with water, allowing passers-by to leave ephemeral messages thanks to a paintbrush, a water atomizer, a water gun or anything that will trigger the moisture-sensitive panel. A magical way to share and communicate in the city.

If left in the centre of the city at night, I can imagine a different kind of …splashes… would leave its marks.
The light is very interesting. The design is very novelty and unique. I think even those who don’t like graffiti paintings and label them as vandalism must agree that this particular kind of it is really impressive. What immediately came to my mind was the so-called Graffiti Panel that is about to be established here in Toronto to check the city walls and deem the paintings either art or vandalism. However, I am afraid the panel members might be prejudiced which would mean that each and every graffiti painting in Toronto could very easily be removed and an important part of our city’s artistic creation would thus be lost. Do they really think this is the best way to fight vandalism?
