TED Talk: Elaine Morgan says we evolved from aquatic apes

I watched this TED talk during my summer holiday. And I’ve thought about it quite some times afterwards. Even though what this elderly lady says is far from everything most people believe… Because we’ve been taught different. And scientists have proven evidence of another evolution… then she’s really interesting to listen to. Elaine Morgan has another angle on our evolution. And some of her points makes sense to me. This has made me think about what we would actually find, if archeologists could dig in the bottom of the ocean as well as they can on land. What’s really down there? What sunk and will stay hidden, maybe forever? Which truths don’t we know yet?

Elaine Morgan is a tenacious proponent of the aquatic ape hypothesis: the idea that humans evolved from primate ancestors who dwelt in watery habitats. Hear her spirited defense of the idea – and her theory on why mainstream science doesn’t take it seriously.

‘Deep North’ Frozen Home by Chris Larson

Chris Larson is a Minnesota native, so this artist knows a thing or two about ice and snow. But it was a visit to Switzerland that got him really thinking about the cold weather when he experienced a numbing ice storm. It was 2008 when his “Deep North” art exhibit came to life in his Minnesota hometown.

Set into the snow, this abandoned and frozen house had Larson working in below zero temperatures to get the interior and exterior carved out just right. During the coldest months Chad sprayed the dilapidated home with thousands of gallons of water and left it all to freeze. The result is chilling, and at some points looks more like a thick coat of white acrylic.

The Gravity Stool by Jólan van der Wiel

My God, is this stool ever ugly. But the concept is super interesting! Just watch the film.

“In dialogue with a natural phenomenon,
by Jólan van der Wiel

The Gravity Stool thanks its unique shape to the cooperation between magnetic fields and the power of gravity.

Departing from the idea that everything is influenced by gravitation, a force that has a strongly shaping effect, Jólan intended to manipulate this natural phenomenon by exploiting its own power: magnetism. The positioning of the magnetic fields in the machine, opposing each other, has largely determined the final shape of the Gravity Stool.

It is the combination of the magnet machine with the plastic material, developed especially for this purpose, that enabled Jólan to start a small but efficient chain of production. The forms and products are characterized by the freakisch and organic shapes that are so typical of nature itself.”

Samsung: Paralympics London 2012 – Sport doesn’t care who you are

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?&v=y5whWXxGHUA]

I really like this commercial! Even though you kinda know, how it will turn out, I was moved – and got all teary eyes – in the end, when “Sport doesn’t care…” shows up.

London 2012 Paralympics – Sport doesn’t care where you’re from, if you’re a man or a woman, tall, thin, big or short. Sport doesn’t care how you got here, how much money you make, what you believe in or not. It doesn’t care if you have two legs, one leg or wheels. Sport only cares that you’re here to take part and give your all to win.
