I Am Not An Expert

If you are Danish, I’ll suggest using the words Entusiast or these made-up words Nysgertør or Passionist :)

Tadaa!

  1. Love it <3. Personally I'm an amateur, so much so, that it's my middle name ;-)

But… The confusion could be due to "bad translation" – most "experts" are really "commentators" and I think there is a current trend to use kommentator in danish too, to be considered "expert" you need respect from your peers.

    From english Wikipedia (expert):

An expert, (also called cognoscente) is someone widely recognized as a reliable source of technique or skill whose faculty for judging or deciding rightly, justly, or wisely is accorded authority and status by their peers or the public in a specific well-distinguished domain. An expert, more generally, is a person with extensive knowledge or ability based on research, experience, or occupation and in a particular area of study. Experts are called in for advice on their respective subject, but they do not always agree on the particulars of a field of study. An expert can be, by virtue of credential, training, education, profession, publication or experience, believed to have special knowledge of a subject beyond that of the average person, sufficient that others may officially (and legally) rely upon the individual's opinion. Historically, an expert was referred to as a sage (Sophos). The individual was usually a profound thinker distinguished for wisdom and sound judgment.

    From danish Wikipedia (ekspert):

Ekspert kommer af latin expertus, som igen kommer af experiri = "at prøve, undersøge". Ordet betyder altså egentlig "den, som har prøvet eller undersøgt". Den oprindelige betydning, "person, der er klog af erfaring", var i brug i det 15. århundrede, og kom det igen i vores tid. Det er dog stadigvæk mest almindeligt at bruge ordet som synonym for en kender, en fagmand. På det allerseneste er ordet desuden blevet knyttet til det nedsættende betegnelse "smagsdommer".

ps. VERY few "commentators" qualify as "experts" in these definitions
